Clear Lenses
In a projector, the lens helps shape and focus the light. A clear and well focused lens helps contribute to a superb image. We have all experienced waking up with our eyes glazed and having trouble focusing, it yields a vague blurry image. In much the same way, you need a quality clear lens to produce sharp projected light. OEM projectors often come with "fresnel" or "frosted" lenses. Since no two projectors are exactly the same, these fresnel lenses are designed to ensure uniform color and output among a range of manufacturing deviations. The downside of this is the lens' "frosty" appearance tends to blur the light that passes through it. On the foreground this has virtually no effect but it wreaks havoc on your cutoff. The penalty is your cutoff is less distinct and not particularly colorful and thus is not as impressive.
Clear lenses are custom fabricated to enhance the sharpness and color of your cutoff. The crystal clear nature of clear lenses means your cutoff isn't blurred and appears "razor sharp." In addition the clear lens' altered shape and spacing is specifically tuned to each projector to yield vibrantly colorful and sharp cutoffs. A lens swap alone can take a projector from "dull" to "wow!" and will truly set you apart from stock! However, achieving a stunning cutoff is a fine balancing act. Modifications to enhance cutoff can be, and often are, overdone. This can cause a number of problems including uneven light output, oversized cutoffs, and can even result in light from your projectors spilling upwards which wastes valuable output and distracts oncoming traffic.
The experts here at Custom Lightz have years of experience in modifying projectors and are keenly aware of all these issues. As a result, we've assembled an inventory of lenses and associated hardware that will help net you projectors with a stunning cutoff without sacrificing (and in some cases even improving) your light output.
